Stuart Appleby, Team BG Group TVP
“This event is a combination of great things - fundraising for such worthy causes as CARE and Sparks which is a privilege to be a part of. BG as a company is doing something really positive by bringing together companies and promoting health and wellbeing. It’s great to see the message being spread corporately that there is more to life than the grinding 9-5 and we’ve got amazing countryside that we should get out and enjoy more.”
Dr Trevor Yip Hoi, Team Gaz de France
“Our line of work is a challenge to begin with so this kind of event will help foster relationships and build our team spirit which will hopefully benefit our work as a result.”
Geoffrey Bent, Team Hess Captain
“The BG Energy Challenge 2008- UK is an attractive way to get to know a lot of people from work who you don’t spend too much time with. But obviously also to raise a load of money for the charities, I know a lot of us are interested in raising money for charity and try to get as involved as possible.”
Western Geco
“We’re returning as defending champions however with new team members we’re really just looking forward to learning more about each other and coming away with a sense of achievement from the weekend.”
Sandra Cheung, Team Captain of Team Petro Canada
“As the only all female team we were delighted with our 9th position after Stage 1. Going into Stage 2 and the game of Merrellus, we’re really confident of retaining our advantage and unlike many, we’ve played before! This is going to be fun!”
Oliver Hawkins, The Structure Group
“Our efforts so far have been very much a team effort, and with an amount of luck, we have been able to capitalise on our opponents mistakes and are leading after Stage 2. The most important thing we have learnt is to plan well before beginning the task, a lesson we will endeavour to extend throughout the weekend.”
Sorrel Holmes, Team Nexen
“We were one of the last teams to leave the start area on Stage 3, spending 15 minutes strategising which really paid off. We stuck rigorously to our plan and the fact that we have done so well in this challenge is an example of why making a clear plan and sticking to it is so important.”
Mark Carne, Executive Vice President Europe and Central Asia
This is one of the most amazing events that we get involved in. It is great to see so many people here having such a wonderful time, building teams together and having great team spirit together but also raising money for charity, which is what a lot of this all about. I love this event – i’m really sad im not involved in it.
The BG Energy Challenge is about building teams not just within comanies but between companies and creating a broader network in our industry. You dont have to be a super athlete to do well, the skill of succeeding here is understanding the strengths and weaknesses of your team and being able to achieve as a team.
Jeremy Braddon - Aker Solution, Manager of Proposals
The BG Energy Challenge is a fantastic mix of brain, guts and lots of muscle pain. We have developed a greater understanding of team work this week. All that we have learnt we will be carrying back to the work place to our peers. All in all a fantastic experience - a lot of fun but a lot of pain!
AAA Nick Carraton – (Luke Oil Company)
I have joined my clients AAA insurance and given me the chance to build relationships. We have definately bonded as a team over the five stages, it has taught us determination and not to give up – It is great to do something completely different outside of work,
Luci Love KPMG - Account Manager for BG Group
This challenge has been great fun and my team have worked really hard, every stage come out of it think we’ve learnt a lot and done really well. We work closely with BG group so entered to show our solidarity with them – we wanted to share the BG Energy Challenge experience. Our team works quite closely and it is a great opportunity for us to bond over a sustained period benefiting more than we would from a one day experience. The charity aspect is really important, Sparks and Care International support projects that really need our support and as big organisations i think we have a duty to and put back into the community
Roy Aspden - Amec, Project Director
We have found camaraderie this week and are beginning to understand each other better. The BG Energy Challenge has prompted us to answer questions about each others personalities, and analyse our strengths and weaknesses.
Andrew Martin Davis – BG Group, Finance Director for Europe and Central Asia
The event is all about team work and having some fun along the way – we have learnt a lot about working as a team and learnt how to deal with situations as they arrive. Charity is the key aspect at this event, so there is a double benefit.
Fran Balloway - Western Geco, Regional Manager for Europe, Caspian and Russia
Not only does the BG Energy Challlenge raise money for great charities, everyone has a great time and you can really see how the teams work together throughout the tasks. My team have gained a lot more confidence in their abilities and how to work with others. Moving forward, we believe that we will now be better equipt to work in a crisis.
John Morgan, Advantica
My team has done really well, the BG Energy Challenge is great for teamwork and although it is brilliant fun the skills also equates back to what we do at work, so its great for the team.
Nick Maden - PetroCanada Vice President Expoloration
We have definately learnt how to better deal with challenges following our successes in the BG Energy Challenge, it hass been clear that we should sit back spend a little more time thinking about the task ahead to sucessfully achieve it, that applies in every day work across every industry.
Dr Trevor Yip Hoi, Gaz de France Britain
This has been a wonderful experience - building the team and gettng to know peole in the office better, learning out strengths and our weakness and how to overcome them. More importantly though it is a wonderful opportunity to raise money for charity.
