BG GROUP EMPLOYEES TAKE A BAKED BEAN BATH!!

22 June 2007

Today, Reading based global natural gas company BG Group, witnessed one of the more unusual fundraising challenges when employees Ron Harink, Jonathan Grime, Mike Wilkes, Lewis Affleck and Brian Sowerby took on the "Baked Bean Challenge". The participants, who are raising money for the BG Energy Challenge 2007 - UK, were sponsored by colleagues to take the plunge in a bath full of beans, whilst onlookers paid an additional £1 each to top up the bath.

Baked bean bathLying in the bath of baked beans, Ron Harink said:

"It was a great afternoon and a fun way to raise money for the BG Energy Challenge event charities CARE International and Sparks. The opportunity to pour a ladle of beans over us proved too good to be true for many of our colleagues. I don’t think I’ll eat baked beans for sometime to come, but it was all for a good cause. Thanks to the sponsorship received from this event, over £1,000 we have now exceeded BG Group’s fundraising target of £45,000."

The BG Energy Challenge 2007 – UK event will see teams from UK companies associated with the energy industry put their employees to the test to raise funds for CARE International and Sparks. Over 30 teams from across the sector will face two and half days of tough physical, mental and strategic challenges all in the aid of raising money for the chosen overseas development and children’s medical research charities.

Ron, Jonathan, Mike and Brian will be competing in one of nine BG Group Teams in the multi-faceted team building event which takes place in Stirling Scotland from 5-8 July.

Teams will be aiming to improve on the £205,000 raised at last year's BG Energy Challenge event.  Further information can be found on the event website www.bg-energychallenge.co.uk
