Cancer Patients Aid Association

Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) is a registered, charitable organization working towards total management of cancer patients – from awareness to rehabilitation – since 1969. In the last 39 years, CPAA has grown exponentially in scope, size and influence, operating out of several locations in India, taking up awareness and early detection of cancer on a war-footing and assisting poor patients by giving them free medical aid, food supplements, prosthesis, transport services besides counselling the patients and offering rehabilitation facilities.

CPAA annually screens approximately 7,000 health individuals for early signs and symptoms of cancer with special emphasis being laid on cancers of the head and neck regions, and cervical and breast since they are the most commonly occurring cancers in India and also those cancers which can be detected at an early stage thereby enhancing cure rates. CPAA runs on an average one diagnostic clinic or cancer screening and awareness programme every day throughout the year and has created a history of sorts in the country. Their team of 15-17 personnel comprising doctors, technicians and supporting staff along with all the equipment travel extensively to different parts of the state. Till date  CPAA has screened more than 215,000 healthy individuals and detected 466 persons suffering from cancer in early stages. Each individual is screened by a Surgeon, Physician, E.N.T, Gynaecologists ( ladies) and basic blood tests are performed. CPAA has won accolades and recognition from world bodies such as the UICC (International Union against Cancer, Switzerland) and has been declared the largest cancer NGO of India.

CPAA continues to finance patient treatment and other support services for the under-privileged and socio-economically backward strata. It rehabilitates patients who have been rendered jobless due to their illness.

As part of its preventive programme, the Organization would like to organize more such screening and awareness lectures with the help of their detection team and extend these services primarily to rural areas, mills, factories, community welfare centres, slums, prisons, etc. screening high risk individuals free of cost on every working day of the week. Some of the slums that are sought to be covered in these camps are areas like Dharavi, Govandi, Thane and interiors of Maharashtra. After the screening, regular follow up of vulnerable groups/patients will be done at their Dadar  and Prabhadevi centres. This would ensure the propagation of the message of Cancer Awareness, Prevention and Early Detection in poor and vulnerable communities.
