We are once again delighted to have been chosen as a benefiting charity for this year’s event – thank you so much. CARE has now been a part of this exciting and rewarding event for 16 years, which is incredible!
I only joined CARE recently, so this will be my first year involved with the BG Energy Challenge, and I’m really looking forward to it. It was great to meet so many participants at the launch last month and see how enthusiastic everyone is. We were told of some really innovative fundraising ideas including a sponsored litter collection along the Thames and charging to do office jobs everyone likes to avoid such as a desk tidy, filing or even expense claims!
I recently took part in BG Group’s Winter Quiz with the rest of the CARE and Sparks Event teams – needless to say we didn’t win but it’s the taking part that counts as they say! Claire from Sparks and I are more than happy to attend any other fundraising events, so please do let us know what you’ve got planned!
Once again there will be a combined Charity Team joining you in Swansea this year. In preparation I’ve already started running a few times a week, so that I’ll be able to keep up with everyone else. I’m motivated (and terrified) by the prospect of having to keep up with rugby legend Jason Leonard, who will be our Team Captain! The team captain’s briefing at the launch made me realise that we also need to do some brain training, so I’ll be doing plenty of puzzles between now and July.

In the run-up to the event, I’m here to help you with your fundraising. As well as the BG Energy Challenge - UK, I support many other teams and individuals who like you are working so hard to help us fight poverty and injustice around the world through cycling from London to Brighton or Paris, running anything from 5k to a marathon, or taking part in our Walk All Over Poverty. So I have plenty of advice and ideas that I’d be pleased to share to help you all raise as much as possible for CARE and Sparks. My best fundraising tips are to start early and to tell everyone your target - it really does work!
Claire and I will be in touch regularly with Team Captains, and we are looking forward to meeting everyone in July.
Thank you for your support and good luck!
