Now in our third year of BG Energy Challenge - UK events, we are all working hard on raising our fitness and fundraising levels as we approach the challenge date. The team you’ll be seeing in Swansea this year are:
• Damian Dowling - Team Captain
• Lucy Goodyear - Team Leader
• Richard Penwright
• Matt Hart
• Edward Henden
We’ve been busy fundraising for CARE International through various office wide activities, but today we’ll let you in on our training regime just to put the fear into the other teams ahead of the event!
We’ve regularly been out as a team running to raise our core fitness. With a few members taking holidays recently however, they’ve had to go it alone. As well as Ultimate Frisbee, Ed managed some training in Singapore and Malaysia, the intense heat and humidity providing good preparation for competing in Wales.......!

Lucy, in addition to hiking between numerous airport terminals, has gone as far as Perth, Western Australia to train, focusing on cycling whilst visiting Rottnest Island, off Perth’s coast. Richard has chased the kids around on holiday and Damian leading from the front, participated in a Swimathon in Hong Kong.
So, most of the team have been getting up to speed with their own individual running and general fitness. The aim however, is to be a unit, and therefore an important preparation for the BG Energy Challenge - 2011 has been getting out for training runs as a team. This gives all team members an idea of each other’s pace and helps them discover the sort of pace which can be expected whilst running together in Swansea. TGS is well placed within Bedford for the team to be able to go running together at lunchtimes with Bedford Park generally serving as the Team’s main running route. We’ve been tracking our progress online via the Nike+GPS app on our iPhones and are feeling confident ahead of 7 July!
Until then, we'll be finalising our preparations, polishing the bikes and swotting up on our mental puzzle skills – unfortunately we don’t think the puzzles on the BG Energy Challenge Twitter feed (@BG_Challenge_UK) are likely to come up again but they’ve proved useful practice!
