On Thursday 7 July, over 200 employees from the energy industry will head to Swansea, Wales for the BG Energy Challenge 2011 – UK, the annual networking and fundraising event hosted by global natural gas business, BG Group.
The 38 teams have spent the last few months preparing both mentally and physically for the event which is renowned for its team bonding and relationship building opportunities. They have also been fundraising hard for event charities CARE International, the overseas aid agency and Sparks, the children’s medical research charity. The monies will build on the £2.5 million already raised by the UK events since 1996.
Competing alongside them will be event Ambassador and 2011 Sparks President, Jason Leonard, OBE. The 2003 England Rugby World Cup hero and most capped player for his country said: “I am delighted to be part of the BG Energy Challenge and participate on behalf of the charities that all the teams work so hard to raise money for. The monies raised are invaluable and make a real difference to the lives of so many people both in the UK and around the world. The sense of achievement that teams will get from taking part is sure to be fantastic, I cannot wait to take part and share the experience with everyone.”
The three day event will involve a multitude of tasks; running, cycling, canoeing, orienteering and construction stages, all designed to challenge physical fitness and strategic and intellectual skills. At the end of the second day, teams will be joined by a Senior Executive from their company who will compete in the “Leaders Challenge”, further enhancing the team-building benefits offered by the event.
Robert Booker, Executive Vice President, Human Resources at BG Group said: “We are delighted to be hosting the teams in Swansea and look forward to giving them a memorable weekend. We are confident that it will be another successful year, both in terms of raising money for CARE International and Sparks and offering companies in our industry the chance to take advantage of the excellent networking aspect of the BG Energy Challenge.”
The UK event is part of the Global BG Energy Challenge Series which has to date raised over £5.9 million for deserving causes worldwide.
