Stage Three – Clue-Dunnit?

Late Friday afternoon and teams were bolstered by the arrival of their Leaders. After a hearty supper and chance to recharge their batteries, a second evening stage was sprung on the teams. Based around Aviemore resort and nearby nature reserve, this murder mystery style challenge saw teams having to solve as many murder investigations as possible during the one hour and 30 minute set time stage.

Stage 3An ‘incident room’ was set up within the resort. From here, the ‘Chief Inspectors’ were able to direct their teams’ investigation, gather clues and apply for arrest warrants as appropriate in their attempts to solve the six murders and arrest the relevant suspects. Team members’ had to visit various locations to correctly answer a series of logic puzzles in return for clues. As each murder was solved and arrests made, teams earned bonus minutes.

A live news feed and forensic information board provided the Chief Inspectors with clues to help with their investigations, whilst their team members scoured the terrain for suspects, weapons and murder locations.

After just 16 minutes, Team 30 Hess were the first to make a successful arrest, closely followed by Team 1 BG Group Strategy and Team 0 Joint Charity - led by event Ambassador and Sparks President, Sir Geoff Hurst, MBE. Team 36 PGS Exploration arrested the incorrect suspect and due to lack of evidence they were unable to earn any bonus points.

Stage 3Team 29 Herbert Smith demonstrated skilled detective work, solving all six murders and winning the stage. Delighted Team Leader Mark Newbury said: “The BG Energy Challenge is all about teamwork, taking the lessons learnt and applying them back in the workplace. The work we do is all about solving problems and we were able to apply these skills to good effect today.”

The results of Stage Three mean that the biggest winners of Day Two were Xodus Ladies Team who moved up from 26th to 9th place after Stage 3. However, top of the leader board by the end of the second day were reigning champions Team 1 BG Group Strategy, having consistently finished within the top five places on all three stages.
