On becoming 2011 President of Sparks, I jumped at the chance to get involved with the BG Energy Challenge. As one of our largest challenge fundraising events, it provided the perfect opportunity to support Sparks as well as participate in such a fun team building event.
As event Ambassador, my first chance to meet some the BG Energy Challenge participants will be at the launch event on 17 February in London. It’ll be a great way to get some fundraising tips and find out a little more about what I’ve got myself into!
After that it will be time to get back on my bike and polish up my map reading skills – I’m determined to make my Charity team members proud! I look forward to getting together with my Charity team who are a mix of Sparks and CARE International colleagues. My years playing rugby taught me that supporting and communicating well with your team mates is the key to success so I am going to take it upon myself to act as team motivator! I will also get some tips from last year’s Ambassador Sir Geoff Hurst who thoroughly enjoyed himself in Aviemore last summer.
In the meantime I encourage you all to get fundraising and start training. You can never start too early and whether you’re fit or not, everyone can get involved – I’ve seen firsthand through visiting Sparks projects that the proceeds donated make a genuine impact on the work they do.
