Fitness FAQs
Q. How fit do I have to be?
A. Participants do not have to be super athletes in order to do well. With astute decision making, team co-ordination and clear communication, anyone of average physical ability that is prepared to extend themself will perform well and enjoy the Challenge.
Q. What do you mean by average physical ability?
A. Anyone who does regular cardio-vascular exercise or physical activities (e.g. football, tennis, squash, cycling, jogging, aerobics etc) would have no problem with the BG Energy Challenge. Individuals who have been inactive prior to an event will need to increase their level of fitness. Individuals and companies can use the BG Energy Challenge as an incentive to get fit. The fitter you are the more you will enjoy the Challenge.
Q. Do I need to train before the event?
A. Yes, it is recommended that you get fitter in preparation for the event.
Q. Will we be able to make substitutions if a team member gets tired?
A. The BG Energy Challenge offers the opportunity for teams to have a substitute. It is always recommended that teams have a substitute to enable the team to make tactical substitutions during the event.
We also advise that any running programme is supplemented with some muscle strengthening and stamina building exercises. The emphasis is on endurance rather than speed, but you do not have to be a marathon runner!
A range of physical skills will be incorporated into the event. Expert safety teams will be on hand to instruct or advise where necessary.
All participants should familiarise themselves with the Countryside Code and Mountain Bike Code (PDF).
