CARE Egypt is part of CARE International - one of the largest private humanitarian organizations in the world - reaching out to address the needs of the most vulnerable groups in the poorest regions of Upper Egypt since 1954. CARE aims to fight poverty by addressing its underlying causes. CARE Egypt works on four main development areas; women’s empowerment, girls education, agriculture and natural resources, and strengthening governance through local participatory processes.
Given fifty years of experience in the field of development, CARE has become a leading CSR consultant to over a dozen corporate partners. The BG Energy Challenge signifies a strong partnership between BG Egypt and CARE Egypt which has been the organizer of the Event since its inception in Egypt in 2004. Over the years, the Egypt Event has welcomed over 160 teams with almost 1,000 participants from various companies working in the energy sector. The organising team has extensive experience and knowledge of the Egyptian desert, and is experienced in leading groups in the mountains and valleys of Egypt.
Funds raised through the Energy Challenge – Egypt have helped in improving the quality of life for many of the poorest communities in Upper Egypt. They have supported initiatives in water sanitation, increasing educational opportunities for girls, improving the quality of education and teaching, improving the livelihood security of small-scale household farmers, and have also supported marginalized women/girls affected by domestic violence at the national and local levels.
